(Washington, D.C.) – October 9, 2026 – The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) is proud to announce that the U.S. Congress once again joined the global hydrogen community in celebrating the twelfth annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day.
National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is observed on October 8 (10.08), in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen – 1.008. It was first launched in 2015 and every year since, Capitol Hill has commemorated the day with resolutions in h the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
The association thanks Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) for co-sponsoring Senate Resolution S.Res.936, along with long-time Congressional industry champions Christopher Murphy (D-CT), and Christopher Coons (D-DE). The resolution was passed unanimously in the Senate on September 30 officially recognizing this day and the important role hydrogen and fuel cell technologies play in the U.S. and global energy economy.
“This day recognizes the immense economic and environmental benefits the hydrogen and fuel cell industry generates for our nation,” said Blumenthal. “Cutting-edge fuel cell and hydrogen technologies bolster our energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, boost job creation, and strengthen our power grid. I’m proud to join my colleagues in marking National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day and celebrating the remarkable innovation and progress made in this industry.”
In addition to the Senate, FCHEA is also very grateful for our leaders in the House of Representatives who introduced their own bipartisan resolution, H.Res.1611 on October 5, led by Representative Jim Costa (D-CA), and joined by Representatives David Valadao (R-CA), John Larson (D-CT), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Paul Tonko (D-NY), and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL).
“Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies are an important part of America’s energy future,” said Congressman Costa. “By investing in American innovation, we can strengthen our energy security, build a more reliable and resilient grid, create good-paying jobs, and reduce emissions. The United States has long been a leader in developing these technologies, and this bipartisan resolution recognizes the work being done across the country to ensure we continue leading the way.”
“We thank Congress for its long-standing support of Hydrogen Day and the recognition of how hydrogen contributes to the U.S. energy economy in so many ways,” said Frank Wolak, President and CEO of FCHEA. “Whether a feedstock for low-carbon fertilizer and export fuels such as ammonia or used directly as a fuel on its own to power data centers, heavy-duty trucks, and everything in between, hydrogen helps the U.S. meet growing power demand at home while sustaining leadership in energy markets abroad.”
